History and Destiny of Faith Church
Faith Church, formerly Faith Tabernacle Church, is a non-denominational Spirit-filled congregation that began as cottage prayer meetings in 1937 and became a church in 1939.
In November 1959, the church was in need of a pastor. While in prayer the people were led to contact Henry Melton, the oldest son of C.P. Melton. Henry had been serving in the army as a lieutenant in Anniston, AL, and had only been in the ministry a short time. He answered the call to return home to Florence with his wife Clara and newborn baby Janine.
In the mid 1970's the church experienced a time of tremendous growth. A new facility seating 350 was opened for services on March 6, 1977.
The blessings of our Lord continued. On Sunday morning, May 22, 1983, we had our first service in our present facility seating almost 1000.
Pastor Melton served as Senior Pastor more than 42 years. On February 24, 2002 he "passed the baton" to Dr. Eddie Lawrence. The church continued to experience growth and blessings.
In 2006 the membership voted to change the church name from Faith Tabernacle Church to Faith Church.
Another expansion of the facilities was completed in 2008.
Pastor Lawrence served as Senior Pastor until February 9,2008. Pastor Melton was asked to serve again, in the role of Interim Senior Pastor through the pastoral search process.
On August 10, 2008 Bill Davis was elected to serve as the Senior Pastor. He served until June 6, 2010.
The membership of Faith enjoy a rich heritage while embracing a bright future. The vision of the Church continues to focus on worshiping Jesus Christ as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. The Church will continue to show our love to the Lord and others by sharing the good news of Jesus with our neighbors and the nations. We are committed as a body of believers, to bring healing to the hurting and encouragement to everyone. We purpose to equip God's people to become involved in ministry to the Lord in an area of service for Him. Faith Church's destiny is to be found by God as true worshipers that worship him in Spirit and in Truth.
